Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson

The coolest thing about this book was that it established an ancient and interesting world. I didn’t appreciate the style as much as some other readers might’ve. For example, I got the impression that there was great clarity in the history or the world going back hundreds of thousands of years. Perhaps this is because there are gods and near immortals involved, but contrast that with Dune, which only hints at the great mysteries of the past. Although the book was entertaining and action-packed, I didn’t find myself becoming engrossed by the plot or the characters–it wasn’t a page turner for me.
